Week 13: almost there

Hello Class 2 Parents,

Nativity costumes
Thank you all for providing your children's costumes. Please could any remaining costumes come in on Monday morning - we have our dress rehearsal at 9.30am. Thank you!
Due to many Nativity rehearsals and other seasonal things, we have not been able to complete our usual twice-weekly reading groups this week. Your child therefore does not have a new reading book, but instead has last week’s book and a Badger book that is roughly at their reading level so that they can use that as a reading book. Please treat the badger book as a reading book this week, helping your child to read parts of it, or reading a sentence to your child and asking them to echo you.
I will take in all reading books and Badger books next week ready to have a sort out before the spring term! Thank you for your understanding.

Important note about reading books:

In our story this week (and in writing):
The children have been writing letters to Penny to persuade her to put the bog babies back in the wild. We'll let you know whether or not they work. The children also did some illustrations for their Bog Baby story writing and I will be making a class book when they are finished.

The children are also carrying out an investigation into the best material for making a lily pad with - water, card or silver foil. we will let you know the results next week!

In maths:
Year 1 children have been adding by jumping along a number line.

Year 2 children have been learning to add two two-digit numbers using column addition. They've done a great job of this but it takes a bit of practice, especially when they need to cross a 10.

There is no maths homework this week, instead please help them to complete this quiz about animals to help the children to remember our learning this term.

In phonics the year 1 children have been reviewing the graphemes learnt so far this half term.

In spellings the year 2 children have been learning that 'c' can make the 's' sound before e, i and y. Their spellings are here.

The Nativity is progressing beautifully. The children have been rehearsing on the stage this week and are looking forward to performing for you next week.
