Summer Week 2: Our new story.

 Hello Class 2 Parents,

We have had a great week in Class 2.

We have started to put together our new Mantle of the Expert story. The children watched a travel agency advert on Youtube and thought about where they might like to travel to. Then we began to set ourselves up as a team of travel agents. The children decided they'd like to be experts in nature travel, so we are called the 'Terrific Nature Travellers.' The children wrote profiles on themselves as travel agents, designed logos for our company and then covered the walls in posters showing the different continents that we offer travel to - first, researching the different wildlife that might be seen on each continent. The children worked in teams to produce their posters and are very proud of them - see below.

In Maths the children have been learning about fractions. Year 1 children learnt to identify a half or a quarter of a shape, or half of an amount of objects. Year 2 children learnt to find half, a quarter, two quarters or three quarters of a shape, and have been learning to find a quarter of an amount.

Year 1 homework is here.
Year 2 homework is here.

The phonics group
has been revisiting the split digraphs in order to read and spell words. Their spellings are here.

The spelling group has been learning how to use a possessive apostrophe. They have a slightly different spelling challenge this week, which is here.

I hope you all have a good bank holiday week end!

Welcome to the Summer Term

Hello Class 2 Parents and welcome to the summer term!

Just like that, it's the summer term!

The sun has been shining, the children came in with smiles on their faces and we've had a really good start to the term.

A few things:

* Thank you for all your help with the Easter homework books. There was a lot of brilliant work done! I have awarded house points and have put the books back in your child's homework folder.

* Reading books: we will continue to collect these in daily and if you have written in that your child has finished their book, we will help them to change it.

* PE kits: Last term I said we'd be doing outdoor P.E.... but the absolutely appalling weather we had meant we only did it twice! This term will be the term though when we will be outdoors. Please name everything including socks - you'd be surprised at how many homeless socks I end up with!

* Water bottles: Please ensure your child does have a water bottle in class. I am endeavouring to remind them to drink regularly as the warmer weather comes in.

* Year 2 SATS: I will be sending out information about these early next week

In class this week the theme has been remembering what school is and getting used to being here again! It has been a really super week. The children have started to learn a country dance to perform at our Coronation Celebration on Friday 5th May, and have also been learning to sing Coronation songs. We have read Roald Dahl's The Enormous Crocodile and the children are in the middle of writing the 'next'  'Secret Plan and Clever Trick'.

In maths both year groups have looked at shapes: naming and describing 2D and 3D shapes. They also learnt about lines of symmetry.
Year 1 homework is here.
Year 2 homework is here.

The phonics group has not looked at any new sounds yet this week: we have been focussing on learning to apply the sounds to reading alien and real words. They can therefore have a week off spellings - but please do help your child to continue to learn words from their own spelling list.

The spellings group has been learning to add the suffixes -ful and -less. Their spellings are here and will also be in their folders.

I think that's everything for now,

Have a good weekend!
